The Independent Urdu team based in Pakistan is looking for a Senior News Reporter (Roving) for its base in Islamabad.
The job holder will be responsible for delivering original news content for the Independent Urdu on a variety of topics. Candidates will be invited for an interview if they pass a writing and reporting test.
What you’ll do:
· produce exclusive content including video stories and conducting exclusive interviews; while maintaining professional journalistic standards and adhering to the defined editorial policies
· Alert editors to breaking news and file accurate, immediate on-the-spot reports; share still photographs and videos;
· Write stories as assigned by the editorial team; select photographs or imagery to supplement/illustrate stories for maximum impact;
· Develop stories in Urdu on a variety of news topics and events – including political, economic, social, cultural, scientific, sporting, technological themes; in a manner which is timely, lively, interesting, convincing, and easily understandable by a non-specialist audience;
· Collect information; verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation and research; receive assignments and/or cultivate new leads to develop story ideas;
· Provide thorough, timely and professional reporting and analysis, in line with the prescribed editorial policies;
What you’ll bring:
At least 7 years of experience as a reporter;
Extensive knowledge in international affairs; Pakistan affairs, news sources;
Good knowledge of the social media landscape and platforms popular across the region;
Strong digital skills;
A collaborative approach to working in teams;
The ability to meet deadlines, manage time and work independently and quickly;
Experience in broadcast is a bonus.
